She Became A Butterfly (The Courage of the Caterpillar)

The time spent transitioning can feel like an entire lifetime. The thing about that in respect to becoming a butterfly, for the caterpillar, it really IS a lifetime. She spins her cocoon to move from one life into the next. Then, on the other side of that life, there is something beautiful waiting to emerge. The was no certainty that she would make it out on the other side, but she was willing to sacrifice what she was for what she could become. Just think about this, if the caterpillar didn’t have the courage to spin that cocoon, we would never have the beauty of the butterfly. That is where I am right now in my life. I am willing to be uncomfortable in the unknown for the promise of the beauty on the other side. When I was in my early 20s my mother always said she was envious of my willingness to move to a place where I didn’t know anyone and start a life. I told her that it was impossible to have experiences in life if all you ever do is operate in what is known to you. The times we live in are as uncertain as the day is long. So, why not take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding you to operate outside of what is known to you?

I wonder if caterpillars know when they are born that they will be transitioning. What happens pre transition is just as important as the transition stage itself. What are you willing to do to change your life and your future outcome? Take time to sit down and write out what your goals. If you know where you are trying to go, you can prepare accordingly. Preparation is key to success. Many times we have an end goal but we do not have a plan in place. My question to myself when I am moving toward a goal without direction…how do I even know if I am going the right way? The answer is clear, I don’t. Not having a plan can be your biggest obstacle because you didn’t know where to start. To become the butterfly I am meant to be, I must operate in the mindset of the caterpillar. Move in a deliberate manner to get to the place where I will begin to see the transition happening. The caterpillar does not just sit and wish to one day become a butterfly. Instead, it nourishes itself and continues to move forward. When it feels like it has put in the necessary work it is only then that it makes the transition into the butterfly.
